How it starts …
Freddy moved to his dream island Lanzarote in 1994.
At that time, a lady used to feed cats on the beach.
Due to health reasons, she had to leave the island. Before leaving, she asked Freddy if he could take care of those cats. This is how Freddy’s Cat House started.
Since then Freddy managed to expand his region of support and walks the costal line from the lighthouse to the harbor to feed and look after cats.
His signature then and now is his red backpack.
On 23. July 2018, an official charity was created in Lanzarote Spain, with an fiscalnumber of identification G76341940 for non profit association like ours.
Today, Freddy looks after 43 feeding stations and more than 110 cats, the number keeps fluctuating. Day after day, he brings food and fresh water to these cats so they can survive. Each feeding station requires bowls to be cleaned or replaced. On a regular basis, destroyed cat shelters need to be re-built.
Tourists often call Freddy to rescue kittens from garbage bins or to pick up sick or injured cats. So Freddy takes them home. Once recovered, he leaves them close to a feeding station with the hope that soon someone will adopt them.
Freddy is known for his passion and total dedication to cats, but also for his short temper when people get in his way or try to hurt these animals.
If you meet Freddy, he will share with you his passion. He will tell you about his work and share happy and sad stories.
Many cats you find along the beach are trusting and always happy to get some attention, strokes and food. Please do not leave wet food during daytime at the feeding stations. It perishes very quickly in the heat.
To cover the cost of these 43 feeding stations and to settle vets‘ bills, Freddy sells T-shirts, sweat-shirts, hats, mugs, bags and key-holders made by Carmen. All the revenue goes to ASOC Freddy’s CatHouse.
